The advantages and characteristics of COB

Integrated LED is generally another name for COB light source in the market, but in fact, the characteristics of COB light source cannot be described clearly. COB refers to Chip-On-Board, which packs a low-power chip directly on an aluminum substrate for rapid heat dissipation, a small chip area, high heat dissipation efficiency, and low driving current. Therefore, it has low thermal resistance, high thermal conductivity and high heat dissipation. Compared with ordinary SMD low-power light source features: higher brightness, lower thermal resistance (<6 ℃ / W), smaller light attenuation, higher index, perfect spot, long life. Some also uniformly arrange the SMD low-power light sources on the aluminum substrate, which is also called integrated LED, but in fact this integration is only welding the packaged SMD light source (finished light source) on the aluminum substrate, not the COB light source; It is COB that encapsulates a low-power chip (LED chip) directly on an aluminum substrate. All COB light sources are integrated LED light sources, but not all integrated LED light sources are COB.

The system thermal resistance of traditional SMD packaging applications is: wafer-solid crystal glue-solder joint-solder paste-copper foil-insulation layer-aluminum; the thermal resistance of COB package system is: wafer-solid crystal glue-aluminum.

The thermal resistance of the COB packaging system is much lower than the thermal resistance of the traditional SMD packaging system, so the life of the LED can be greatly improved.

The traditional SMD package uses a patch to form multiple discrete devices on a PCB to form a light source assembly for LED applications. This method has the problems of point light, glare and ghosting.

The COB package is an integrated package and is a surface light source. The viewing angle is large and easy to adjust, which reduces the loss of light refraction. COB-based light sources have characteristics such as low thermal resistance, high luminous flux density, low glare, and uniform light emission.
